Well, I just finished watching the new episode and I've gotta say: I think the singing needs to be toned down a bit. I like the occasional catchy tune, but having the ponies singing throughout the episode makes it much more... what's a good word... girly? Not sure if that's the right word. Not to mention the choreography of this episode (and the first part of the Crystal Empire) seemed odd to me. Just personal taste, I assume.

Now that twilight is a princess, what now? The premise of the show was to teach lessons in friendship and they've effectively thrown that out the window. Celestia foreshadows new lessons, but how they'll be portrayed and what lessons there are to learn is yet to be seen. I suppose the best thing to do is just wait and see what comes up, but all I know is: I can wait for season 4. I'm in no hurry.

I'm sure a decent chunk of the fandom will stop watching the show after this. Unless the writers can come up with something clever for the show, I'll probably just stick with the fandom and ignore the show. I haven't really read up on a lot of what's happening between DHX and Hasbro, but it seems Hasbro is starting to strong-arm the studio to help with toy sales and DHX is having trouble weaving a cognitive story to accommodate. Perhaps more one-off episodes would be more preferable than 2-parter episodes.

It's been, what? 2 1/2 years since ponies blew up the internet? Seems about right that things are starting to settle down. The fandom isn't dead nor dying (at least the creative side isn't) and I suspect it'll keep running for a long time.

On another note: I'm going to re-try syncing the audio to Doctor Whooves 3 so that I can finally upload on deviantart.

Hey guys!

I've been working on the mistakes I made on New Math as pointed out on youtube [link] for the upload for here. A problem I've encountered is that I haven't a clue how to use actionscript and the pre-made preloaders I had don't work with the actionscript 3.0 on Flash CS6. So chances are I'll upload without a preloader. I'm sure most of you guys know how to handle flash without a preloader (right click the mouse on the flash and uncheck "Play" until you feel it's loaded).

Anyway, on to business.

My next small project will be to ponify an audio clip from Home Movies where Coach McGuirk talks to Melissa about his insomnia. [link]
What I would like to know is how to go about designing Coach McGuirk. I already have a design planned out for Melissa, but I wanted to use a character from MLP to represent the coach. The setting is in the filly flight camp and both characters are pegasi. I'm currently hung up on 2 designs:

1st design (one I like/would be easy to build a model): [link]

2nd design (not too fond of but would be more appropriate): [link]

Drop me a comment and let me know which design you like best. For all I know I'll find a way to combine them. I don't intend to work too hard on this thing so there may or may not be as much emphasis on head direction, just facial expression and the audio.

On to the clarification:

To those of you who wish to have me involved in a project that you want to start, I think I may speak for most animators when I say this: when asking for an animator, most of the prep work must be done beforehand. I don't know about all animators, but I certainly don't like waiting 4+ months for someone to finish a script that should've been already written with accompanying audio so that I'll actually have something to do. I can't do squat if you haven't done squat. I"m also going to say that I do take priority of my own projects over that of yours because, well, I can actually upload it and make a little money.

Script, rough storyboard and finalized audio must all be done before contacting an animator. If you can't find an animator but have all that done, you may have yourself an interesting audio play at the very least. Find an artist and you can do a still-image slideshow.

The deadline is past now and the submissions are closed. You can still submit any art you want, but it won't be put into the cartoon. I currently have half the winners built and ready for placement. Just need to hear back from two more judges and I can get started on the other half.

Winners will be announced soon.

[EDIT] Official Deadline to submit your art is now December 3rd, 2012

Hey there, guys!

Would you like to have your pony OC featured in the background of the 3rd episode of the animated series "Doctor Whooves and the Assistant?"

Now you can! Just follow these rules and your OC MAY be put in the cartoon.

Rules:
-Have an OC that is a pony.
-Draw your OC doing an activity with my OC (stroking my ego, I know) and/or with Pierce Smoulder (OC for :iconbalddumborat:). You can see him in the Gangnam style video.
-Bear in mind that even if you do draw a picture, your OC may not be chosen to be put into the cartoon.

Winners will be chosen by myself, my co-animators and BalddumboRat if he/she feels up for it.

Exceptions:
-All OCs submitted and chosen to appear will be subject to modifications to fit the show style I use (recoloring, removing accessories, simplifying hairstyles, etc.) as I see fit.
-OCs will only appear in scenes where crowds and background ponies are needed. Off the top of my head, that would be about 2 scenes.

To submit your picture to the contest, just upload onto deviantart and post a comment with a link to your picture. I will then add a thumbnail of submissions to this post for easier viewing for myself and the other judges.

Deadline to submit is basically whenever I finish the cartoon and start cleaning everything up and adding more characters. I will post another journal entry letting you guys know the contest is over.

Hey guys! A group called "the Artist Alley" has started an interview series and they used me in their pilot. You can find it here: [link]

Sad news: Jitterbug Jive's paypal account has been frozen due to fraudulent claims caused by trolls. Huge hugs for her. Give her a hug :iconbalddumborat:

Wouldn't it be nice if logging onto the internet was on par with walking out in public where anonymity would be pretty much nonexistent.

Other news: I'm currently on vacation and will be spending the next 5 days sitting in front of my computer in an attempt to get most of episode 3 finished. As of right now I finished with one scene and am halfway done with another. My goal is to have all but 1 scene finished by next sunday.

With that said, I'll be posting a new journal entry soon with details of how you can have your OC put in the background of this upcoming episode. The post will be made when I reach a certain point in my cartoon. So when you see it, it means that I'm very close to finishing.

Can't wait for the next episode of FiM. I have no clue what it'll be about and I'd like to keep it a surprise. :3

So it looks as though my version of the infamous "Cupcakes" has made it onto an episode of Bronies React. [link]

I'm ecstatic that my video is on there, but my gears grind a little when they compare it to MisterDavey's "Cupcakes HD."

If I remember correctly, MisterDavey is a professional animator who works for Hasbro. I'm a guy who animates for fun-sies with no real training. Cupcakes HD is a bright and colorful, upbeat parody of the fan fiction; whereas MLP: Cupcakes is a dark, ominous adaptation. There is indeed a difference between a parody and adaptation. I'm just glad the bronies who reacted in the video acknowledged that since that seems beyond the realm of possibility to a lot of those who commented on the video. I still find it funny that people who enjoy the Doctor Whooves series also say that I should stop animating forever once they've seen MLP: Cupcakes. It seems they don't know who animates the things they like.

You guys have no idea how much I love you right now :'D

I've already started assembling the third episode of Doctor Whooves and the Assistant and it's coming out extremely nicely. My goal whenever I do a cartoon is to always outdo my previous cartoon. I will say adding a movable neck has significantly improved the body language factor. (you'll notice in the first two episodes the necks don't move at all or rarely)

But anyway, to explain the header:

While I was putting the Doctor and Derpy in their respective places and giving them life so to speak, I was wondering how I would handle the background ponies I want running around while our protagonists are doing their shtick. I had an idea that I would post the OCs of various artists or fans to run around and such. Not a huge deal. Problem I see is deciding which ones to use, or I could have people commission me for a spot, or I could hold a fanart contest, or I'd give up and just use the BG ponies in the previous episode.

What do you guys think?

Should I add OCs to the background?

If so, how should I choose the OCs?

Lets brainstorm! :D

I won't be putting background ponies into the cartoon until I get the main characters in place. So there's a lot of time to decide.

(shorp is gonna be in it, no matter what you guys say :P It'll be a "where's Waldo" type deal)

Okay, I am now officially out of my animation slump and have resumed the tedious task of lip syncing the characters. It'll still take a long while before we finish that, and after that we need to get the eyes moving the the facial expressions done. Then the main choreography and such. David finished his backgrounds which you can see on his page :icondeftwise-zero:

I'm looking for pony songs to put into a playlist for either animating, driving, just rocking at work. I currently have:

-Amazing Pony
-Avast Fluttershy's Ass
-Baked Bads
-Daddy Discord
-Octavia's Lullaby
-She's a pony
-This Day Aria (karaoke)

If you guys have suggestions for good pony songs to put on a playlist, send me a name and a link in the comments. I will say that I do NOT enjoy rap, dubstep, vocal music done by male singers who aren't all that good (mic is good, but seldom has songs I like), or any other highly repetitive song that isn't catchy. I REALLY like songs that are fun to sing along to (I liked Mic the Microphone's rendition of Pinkie's Brew).

What's up guys!

I've hit a couple of snags in Doctor Whooves 3. I have been losing focus and interest for the project and have slowed down, but I'm still trying to pick up momentum. The animator who helped me in the second episode has immersed himself into a project of his own so he isn't helping much at all. I may do another "licious" video to see if I can churn the animation juices.

On another note: I'm tired of being single.

I have a couple of gal pals, but they're either taken or uninterested. Whenever we hang out it just emphasizes that I'm single as hell. Don't want to try online dating since there's really nothing but bots, gangsta divas, and cowgirls on there. The friends of my gal pals are either gay, uninterested, or the type of girl I prefer to avoid. Not sure if there are any single pegasisters in shreveport or reallly in Louisiana. It's a little frustrating as some of you can sympathize.

hmm...

I wonder if I can attract girls at the boardwalk if I wear my kilt :)
  • Mood: Desperate

I think that by making "Colgatelicious" I've opened myself up to a whole new line of projects. I've gotten 3 submissions for different background pony characters to do a "licious" video for them in a matter of 2 days. I'm also quite happy that people on other parts of the internet are recognizing my username *feels like a boss* But I need to let you guys know that these licious videos (though they're quick to make) will not be the focus of my efforts. They'll be a nice distraction when I need some time away from Doctor Whooves, but I'll only make the videos if I actually feel like. So no telling when the next one will be out.

Update about garbagemen:

So I posted a sign I printed onto my garbage can with batman pointing and saying, "I'm watching you (please do no leave this can in the driveway)." They ignored it. But instead of being a dick, I called the central office where they organize the routes and such for garbage men everywhere and informed them about the shoddy job the guys were doing on my route. Lady said she'd say something to them, or post a memo or whatever.

One week later:

Trash can is on it's side in the middle of my driveway...

Payback is gonna be a bitch.
M'kay, I figured I'd take this opportunity to let you guys know that Doctor Whooves 3 is coming along at a nice, brisk pace. I'm hoping that we can get everything done in time for a late July/mid-August release. You should know how I am with deadlines, so no promises. :D

I'm having a bit of a problem with the garbage men who seem to have developed a habit of leaving the garbage container right smack-dab in the middle of my driveway... on purpose. I'm thinking of leaving a note saying something along the lines of, "Stop doing that retards, or else..." Problem is, I don't know how to get back at them for blocking my driveway. Do you guys have any suggestions?

-must be a legal prank
-cannot harm the garbage men
-must ruin the rest of their day

I don't want to have to sit in the bushes with a paintball gun and wait for them.

Edit: good ideas guys. I like the batman glare idea best. I'm also thinking of getting rid of the bricks I have in my backyard. I'll probably just toss em in this... flimsy trash bag and leave outside the trash can.

Had another brainwave. What if I filled my can with water? The thing can easily hold like... 30 gallons. Mayhaps it'll screw with their hydrolics or splash the guy operating it.
Felt nostalgic and decided to release as many of my works as I could before bed. There's still plenty to upload, but I'll get to it tomorrow. I love comments, so leave one please :3

Some of these works have never been seen before outside my house, so as big-headed as this sounds, enjoy this little treat as you see just how much I sucked at animating back in High School.
I finished the animation portion of the cartoon. I just need to add the BG ponies, add captionings, and tweak problem areas and I can possibly have this bad boy released this friday or saturday.

Hooves crossed.
Just uploaded the trailer for the second episode. You can watch it here [link]

If you guys have anything to add that would make this much better than the first episode, feel free to drop a comment.

Also: [link]
So I've finished the short videos I made for my science class and with that out of the way I can officially start working on the second episode of Doctor Whooves and the Assistant. I've been tweaking my design models (adding lashes to Derpy, making new facial expression, new angles for the heads, etc.) and I've been watching MLP and paying attention to how they use camera angles, so hopefully we won't have more bland, static camera work. I've finished playing Skyrim and I'm caught up on the major fan fictions I like so other than college, there's no reason for procrastination.

If you guys have any suggestions that would help with the next episode (Dr. Who fans showing what is show accurate, mistakes I missed in the first episode, etc) feel free to post a comment. I just finished reading every... single...comment... on the first episode here on deviantart. If you feel like doing some background art, that'd be cool too. David has his hands full at the moment with all the backgrounds I'm demanding from him.

Give the second episode a listen and tell me how you think parts should be portrayed. [link]
Ok guys, I've decided to collaborate with Sandjosieph and attempt to organize the lyrics and animate his song "Carnival Cat vs Ponyville" However, I need willing singers to help with the actual audio part. I can't start animating until I get the audio and I really don't need the audio until June (roughly when I finish Doctor Whooves 2) but the sooner I get it the better. I have a video with the details and files necessary for you to help contribute and I will be forever in your debt if you guys decide to lend your voice. I've gotten a few voices but I still need a lot more.

video can be found here: [link]

I'm currently working on a vocal resource video so you guys can hear what each part sounds like being sung (courtesy of my sister Kat). Though when you record, I'd prefer you sing along with the original video so as to help keep the tempo steady. Headphones should help, but I should also warn you that some parts are a bit shrill. that's my bad. Each part you sing should be a separate file and should contain only your voice.

I'm also keeping a record of who submits voices so I can properly credit everyone who contributes. Hope to see some submissions!
As a lot of you guys may have seen from Equestria Daily, a group of guys are doing a full-on film based off the hugely successful, heart breaking fan fiction "My Little Dashie."

I made a comment on the video on youtube and the director of this project asked if I'd be interested in animating the ending where Dash goes home. I'm like BUCK YEAAAAAAHHHHH! So yeah, there's something else to look forward to this year.

I so hope I don't screw this up...

No!

No doubts!

I'm am so happy you guys love the animated adaptation of "Doctor Whooves and the Assistant."

Rest assured: THERE WILL BE AN EPISODE 2! :D

Chances are I'll get right to working on it sometime early summer. Right now I've gotta make short animations for a science presentation due late April, so that'll eat up a lot of my time.

On a side note: I f---ing hate my world history instructor. She didn't even know the difference between a spartan soldier and a centurion. Really!? Not to mention she uses Microsoft Word to show her Powerpoints....
